The words "die young" from the monologue are tattooed on Del Rey's finger. Every night I used to pray that I'd find my people And finally I did On the open road We have nothing to lose, nothing to gain, nothing we desired anymore Except to make our lives into a work of art Live fast Die young Be wild And have fun I believe in the country America used to be I believe in the person I want to become I believe in the freedom of the open road And my motto is the same as ever "I believe in the kindness of strangers" And when I'm at war with myself I ride I just ride Who are you?
Are you in touch with all of your darkest fantasies? Have you created a life for yourself where you can experience them? I have I am fucking crazy But I am free. You think I'll ever feel electric again? You think I'll ever transform into the man God meant to make when he began? Hear the birds on the summer breeze I drive fast, I am alone at midnight Been trying hard not to get into trouble But I, I've got a war in my mind I just drive, Hmm , just drive, Hmm I just drive, just drive.

But again, lyrically she is not presenting herself as a gold-digger per se.
Rather Del Rey comes off as someone who has grown weary of living a transient lifestyle and wants her current romantic interest, the aforementioned male, to actually commit to her. The singer is caught up in a type of transient lifestyle that she feels a committed, well-to-do partner can rectify. Interscope Records in association with Polydor Records made the creation and release of this song possible.
I completely agree, and I would just like to say that I fucking love how you said it could be the soundtrack to the lives of James Dean of Jack Kerouac. I love James Dean and On the Road is one of my favorite books in the world. I agree. I really like how she combines both the romantic and the gritty aspects of the theme. My Interpretation "Dying young and playing hard, that's how my father made his life an art" To me it sounds like she's singing about Elvis and not her biological father, cause her biological father is very much alive.
The reason why I suspect this is because in her song "Body Electric" she sings: "Elvis is my daddy, Marilyn's my mother - Jesus is my bestest friend. Maybe because she's inspired by the way Elvis lived. Brilliant observation! I was trying to make sense of this phase and failing before you mentioned it. I think you're right, she imagines that her "real" family is Elvis, Marilyn, and Jesus. General Comment I think riding in the context of this song refers to escaping an overwhelming sense of doom by running or rather, riding away from problems.
However, you can't really run away from your problems. Unless your choose to change yourself your problems will always catch up to you eventually. It also sounds like she's finding freedom among outlaws. The homeless nomads are every bit as at war with themselves as she is with herself.
She's learned to find liberation in the realization that life itself is transient so one is free to live fast and die young. My Interpretation For me is just like, a desperate need to find security and love in someone. I think that's waaaay to much references to her dad, it may be as her father couldn't give her the security and love seh needed so she tried to find it in other men especially the older ones. That's my opinion anyways, beautiful song Mchtz on January 08, Link.
My Interpretation This song is simply about being a social reject, being someone who doesn't fit in in the society. After trying so hard to fit in, she just decided to go and "ride". This song breaks my heart. It's like someone who have been trying so hard to fit in and to get people to understand her. Even the "don't break me down" part sounds like she's begging people to just stop leaving or judging her for what she is and just accept and take her.
