I believe they don't add freshman year is because the transition from middle school to high school is stressful so they overlook freshman year. During the summer before my junior year, I took 2 community college courses A-G requirement from CA and 1 honors course 2 grades for 2 semesters from another UC approved institution. If a student takes 6 A-G classes a semester, with a cap of 8 honors points assume 2 per semester and getting all A , that would mean the max GPA is 4. Therefore you need to compare your uncapped GPA. Electives don't count towards GPA so it's unfair that someone who took more electives have a higher gpa. The kid who took less classes that count towards GPA have a 4. Does UCLA account for this? A large part of UC admissions is based on GPA, so it feels unfair that someone who took more classes is at a disadvantage since they have more classes that bring down their GPA closer to a 4. Roger: Sure, the GPA definition has some flaws. But I think admissions are based on your entire transcript, not just your GPA.
