I'm just wondering if the forum would consider the age of the tire as acceptable for a new tire? To be fair I do a lot of mileage and rarely get more than 2 winters on a tire so I'm definitely not one of those persons who has winter tires last seasons. When I goggled this question most people said up to a year was acceptable.
I believe tire shops are allowed to sell tires up to 5 years old from manufacture date. Personally I got new tires that were 3 years old at a discount , because like you I drive a lot and my tires do not last long. Sadly its on the customer to check these DOT codes and I hear many people driving away with year old tires without realizing it and paying full price. If older then that then I would be concerned but as you say you drive a lot so you wont have any issues. My personal preference would be less than 1 year old.
But since you will wear through them in two years, there's nothing to worry about. If you needed them to last years, then maybe the newest tires possible would be preferable. Thanks for the replies sickcars derass submarine I felt that my tires were of an acceptable date but when I went online just to verify like I mentioned in my original post most people were saying a year or less.
Some people were saying 2 months or less. Anyways I was more or less fishing to see what RFD forum was thinking. I always try for less then a year. The answer is the intarwebs and "too much knowledge" can be a dangerous thing. Even if a tire is over six years old, a tire shop is still legally allowed to sell you that tire. Otherwise, you might end up with dangerous tires that you need to replace right after getting them!
Furthermore, if you read the fine print on most tire treadwear warranties, it specifies limits on mileage and how old the tire is. For instance, Firestone warranties only last for ten years from the date of manufacture, regardless of when you bought the tire or how many miles you put on it. Remember always to ask to see the tires before they install them on your vehicle so you can check this number! All depends on manufacturer. Some warranty tyres from date of manufacture some from date fitted.
Depending on ozone levels,[id. A set add for load E,look pro, studded or non mount for fifty. I sell well stored tires fifteen years old with no problems. I have Geo Prizm. I have five tires. Four on and one spare. I hardly drive it since I put those tires on 10 years ago.
The treads are hardly warned if any at all. However one of then started to slow leak. I took it to Town Fair tires to have it dismounted from the rim and remounted so as to be re-seated back on the rim. They refuse to do it even as they said that the tire was in excellent condition, almost in brand new conditions. The reason they gave me was that the manufacturing date on the side of the tire, indicated the tire was ten years old.
They said they were afraid that the tire would blowup in their face. What a bunch of crap just to try in selling me new tires that I did not need. They wanted my practically brand new tires and said they could replace them with lesser age used tires. New tires and use tire are expensive these days. I have driven new tires that have exploded driving on the highway. Tires like anything else can come apart without notice, even when they are new. It seems that today, regulations make an issue out everything for the sake of safety, but the bottom line is making money off the least of us that can not afford all these lapse time maintenance calls.
